Ask and explain

Ask the text. Keep the text home.

Dossier can answer questions about the portfolio and rewrite any section or claim in plain language. Both use the Claude API, and both are the only reason patent text ever leaves the machine.

Chat

A conversation that starts where you are reading.

Open the chat from any page, or press Ask beside a section or claim to start from it. The answer streams in, and Dossier keeps your conversations so you can come back to them. Press Control or Command slash to open and close the panel.

Chat: a streamed answer about the section you are reading.
Plain-language summaries

The same section, in words a non-specialist can follow.

The ELIF button, short for explain like I'm five, opens a simplified version beside the original. It works on sections and on claims. Dossier writes each summary once and remembers it, and you can ask for a fresh one.

Privacy

What leaves the machine, and what never does.

Stays local

The portfolio, the search index, the claim graph, your saved chats, and the summaries all live on the developer's machine.

Goes to Claude

Only the text a chat or summary request needs goes to the Claude API, and only when you ask. Nothing goes to any other service.

Never written

The portfolio folder is read-only to Dossier. It cannot edit, draft, or file an application.
